Description

Target Audience

This course is targeted to physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, pain specialists, dentists and other healthcare providers who treat patients in pain.

Activity Purpose

This interactive, evidence-based course examines the best practices for treating patients experiencing pain and reviews the guidelines for assessing patients, developing a comprehensive treatment plan, using first-line therapies, initiating an opioid trial and regimen, monitoring patients and managing the risk of opioid abuse, overdose, and diversion. This course also educates learners on how to treat worker populations and pregnant women who struggle with chronic pain or substance use disorder.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

Describe the prevalence of opioid use and abuse and scope of the problem
Examine the importance of incorporating new research and training into practice
Practice recommended guidelines to prevent opioid abuse, dependence, and other adverse effects
Define the evidence for improving pain and function

Complete activity evaluation online (pre and post) through the learning management system; a certificate of participation will be provided to the learner automatically upon completion and passing the learner assessment. The learner can also email, print certificate of participation when they are logged into their account.
